Wood PLC is seeking a skilled Lead Control and Instrumentation Engineer to contribute to our diverse projects on a contract basis. This role offers a hybrid working model, allowing flexibility with a minimum of two days in the office.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee project activities as the Lead C&I Engineer, ensuring all aspects of instrumentation are managed within established budgets and timelines.
- Conduct engineering tasks related to instrumentation (Concept, FEED & Detailed Design).
- Adhere to safety protocols as outlined in personal performance agreements.
- Enhance operational practices and systems, striving for continuous improvement.
- Execute work in compliance with company and project Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards.
- Uphold the technical quality of deliverables.
- Identify and manage scope and schedule modifications following the Change Control Process.
- Ensure compliance of designs with relevant procedures, standards, and regulations.
- Maintain adherence to agreed budgets and schedules for all assigned tasks.
- Stay informed on technical advancements, national and international standards, and legislative requirements pertinent to the discipline.
- Assist in the preparation of project estimates and timelines.
- Foster effective communication with clients and conduct site visits as necessary.

Ideal Candidate:
- Proven experience in projects within the Energy, Chemicals, and Refining sectors.
- Familiarity with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
- Experience working as a Senior C&I Engineer within project teams across various industry sectors, managing small to large capital projects from inception to startup.
- Self-motivated team player capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Expertise in developing Instrument Engineering deliverables tailored to specific project needs.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status with the Institute of Measurement and Control (IMC) or Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is preferred.
- Experience in specification control and safety system upgrades and modifications is advantageous.
- Knowledge of field instrumentation, analyzers, ESD, and actuated valves.
- Experience in sizing flow devices, control valves, and relief devices.
- Participation in HAZOP, LOPA, Alarm Reviews, and SIL Determination is desirable.
- Familiarity with IEC 61511 Safety Lifecycle and Emergency Shutdown System architecture and design.
- TUV or similar Functional Safety Engineer qualification is a plus.
- Experience with Fire & Gas systems and detection equipment, as well as BS5839-1 application.
- Understanding of IT/Telecoms/Networks/Access Control & CCTV Systems is beneficial.
- Experience in managing instrumentation and control requirements for mechanical packages.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Client Engineers to facilitate project execution.
- Proficient in managing vendor relationships to support project delivery.
- Sound technical background with extensive expertise in the field.
- Knowledgeable in relevant codes of practice, standards, and statutory documentation.
- Experienced in design and assessment methodologies used within the discipline.
