Job Title: Academy Team Chief Mechanic

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Academy Team Chief Mechanic to join our team at Williams. As a key member of our Academy Team, you will be responsible for overseeing the safe preparation, build, and on-time delivery of our Academy cars and equipment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the preparation, build, and disassembly of Academy cars, ensuring they are finished on time to the required technical specification.
  • Manage resources within the Academy Team to ensure event and factory targets are met.
  • Liaise and work with Engineering to achieve the correct technical specification and event targets.
  • Liaise with the Heritage, Car Assembly, and Component Assembly departments to meet event targets.
  • Liaise with Part and Inventory Management to ensure usage and shortages are communicated via the trackside spares person.
  • Liaise with the Power Unit supplier and personnel to meet engineering specification and event targets.
  • Liaise with the Gearbox supplier and personnel to meet engineering specification and event targets.
  • Work with the Team Coordinator and Garage Technician Team leader to meet event targets.
  • Proactively report faults and potential reliability issues via Engineering and the company fault systems.
  • Embed and maintain best working practices to improve build quality and ultimately car reliability.
  • Ensure efficient operations between the Academy Team and all Assembly areas, maintaining a positive relationship with all other Departments.
  • Maintain high standards of Team presentation and identify ways to continuously improve team and personal performance.
  • Manage the Academy Mechanics.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring, and suitably role model desired attitudes and behaviors within the team, delivering a positive and supportive working environment.
  • Responsible for the behavior, conduct, and wellbeing of the Academy Team on and off the track, ensuring the Company is presented in a professional manner.
  • Work with the Team Manager to ensure skills matrices are up to date and that suitable measures are agreed and taken to close any identified gaps in skills or knowledge.
  • Work with the Team Manager to recognize learning and development opportunities for individual and team development, involving relevant stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • An in-depth understanding of fundamental engineering principles and a relevant degree or equivalent qualification supported by experience in motorsport, aerospace, or a related field.
  • Previous experience as a No 1 Mechanic is desirable.
  • Time and risk management skills.
  • Impeccable attention to detail with the ability to handle multiple projects at the same time.
  • A team player who is comfortable working with internal and external entities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with courteousness, tactfulness, and professionalism.
  • Demonstrate effective time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with changing priorities and multiple events.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible and proactive.
