Estimator - Job Overview

The main aim of this role is to deliver expert estimating services for prospective business ventures. By adopting a professional estimating methodology, the objective is to competitively secure future projects while effectively managing known risks and potential rewards. Key duties include:

  • Estimating both manufacturing and site installation tasks, encompassing both self-performed and subcontracted work.
  • Creating Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and procurement timelines for the estimating phase.
  • Assessing Cost Risk Registers and overseeing Estimating Uncertainty.
  • Collaborating with internal approval entities to adhere to tender submission timelines.
  • Executing estimating tasks within sanctioned Bid Costs.
  • Providing precise reports on estimating Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and progress.
  • Fostering positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implementing optimal estimating practices and protocols.

Qualifications / Experience Required / Personal Attributes

Qualifications:

  • Full Craft City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 / B-Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing within the Nuclear, Defence, or Heavy Engineering sectors.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in manufacturing estimating (preferred).

Competencies:

  • Comprehension of Engineering Drawings, Specifications, and Contract Documentation.
  • Knowledge of fabrication, machining, and assembly processes.
  • Identifying 'Norms' for fabrication, machining, and assembly.
  • Managing project risks in estimates.
  • Experience in formulating written procedures and processes.
  • Proficiency in IT Systems, including Microsoft Office.

Personal Attributes:

  • Commercial awareness and adherence to budgets/timelines.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Professional representation of the company to clients and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
