About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Program Manager to join our team at American Express. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for coordinating delivery across various workstreams, enabling teams to coordinate dependencies, and managing testing and technical discussions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Steer execution on defined program-level goals for medium-to-high complexity programs.
  • Work within and across teams to anticipate, track, and resolve risks and impediments to delivery.
  • Steer technical program conversations and articulate solutions, co-developing and documenting solutions.
  • Participate with product and engineering leaders to build implementation roadmaps.
  • Provide and consolidate inputs for leadership updates, facilitating meetings with leadership on delivery status and key decisions.
  • Identify and execute on opportunities for improvements to the delivery process, working with relevant teams to redesign process flows.
  • Mentor, guide, and support Technical Project Managers and other team members as appropriate.
  • Track and interpret relevant OKR/KPIs, identifying key insights and next steps.
  • Participate in PI planning meetings and other Agile ceremonies for team/teams, contributing to prioritization discussions and pressure testing plans for feasibility, capacity, and risk.
  • Drive coordination, collaboration, and alignment between Product Owners, Architects, and Engineers to meet regulatory and technical requirements.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with SDLC standards.
  • Facilitate and plan change management and release management activities.
  • Identify and address complex inter-team technical dependencies, bridging gaps in technical management.
  • Follow and instill documentation best practices to ensure designs meet requirements.
  • Drive technical and regulatory consistency across workstreams, developing documentation to ensure ongoing maintenance and development of technical and regulatory solutions.
Scope of Impact/Influence
  • Collaborate with Engineering teams to drive alignment of architectural approach and technical strategy to execute delivery.
  • Responsible for tracking delivery and activities related to medium to high complexity initiatives, adding to design discussions, issue resolution, and removing obstacles to ensure program goals are met.
  • Embraces the Technology SDLC process and role models a continuous improvement mindset.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in technical discipline or equivalent work experience required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Certifications in project management methodologies is preferred.
  • 3+ years in program delivery and project management.
  • Experience with Agile/SAFe/Lean methodologies a plus.
  • Experience managing multiple initiatives, priorities, and teams.

  • Ability to manage cross-functional projects with technical depth.
  • Strong understanding of organizational, product, and industry standard metrics. Ability to leverage metrics to diagnose problems and improve delivery.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and able to build and leverage strong working relationships and bring different opinions to consensus.
  • Understanding of the full life cycle of product development, from concept to delivery, including Test Driven Development (TDD).
  • Ability to manage the post-production processes, drive quality, and implement testing best practices.
  • Technical problem-solving and issue-resolution abilities.
  • Ability to maintain a high attention to detail in a deadline-driven work environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated experience engaging and influencing cross-functional stakeholders and senior leaders.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management process, project management software tools, templates, and management techniques.
