An exciting position has emerged for a passionate Senior Pharmacist with vision and leadership capabilities to become part of the Critical Care team and oversee the formulary management.
The ideal candidate will be a driven and seasoned professional with teaching and clinical competencies. They will possess strong interpersonal, leadership, and managerial abilities. A postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or its equivalent, along with hospital pharmacy experience in critical care, is essential.
Main Responsibilities- Oversee, implement, and evaluate the pharmacy critical care service in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
- Develop and sustain the web-based hospital formulary, in partnership with the Lead Pharmacist for Medicines Information.
- Provide training in critical care competencies to clinical staff.
- Act as a mentor for trainee pharmacists and diploma candidates as needed.
- Coordinate and contribute to the creation and review of pharmacy information bulletins.
- Deliver a highly specialized service to critical care by ensuring mechanisms are in place to promote high-quality medication use, effective risk management, patient safety initiatives, and adherence to organizational policies and guidelines.
- Advise on drug budget management and lead, develop, and assess the clinical pharmacy service in this area.
- Maintain a regular ward pharmacy presence and assist in the advancement of clinical pharmacy services, including training and implementation of relevant policies and risk management strategies.
- Support clinical pharmacy services, dispensary, production, and medicines management programs as required.
- Lead, initiate, or contribute to relevant practice research or audit projects within the Pharmacy and disseminate the findings as appropriate.
- MRPharmS or equivalent, registered with GPhC
- Completion of a postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy/Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
- Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice
- Independent Non-Medical Prescribing qualification
- Membership in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
- Experience in Critical Care
- Ability to manage and supervise staff effectively
- Experience in leading and implementing change
- Capability to engage directly with the public, senior clinicians, and other healthcare and pharmaceutical industry personnel
- Experience in managing or advising on drug expenditure
- Understanding of formulary and drug utilization review and clinical trial issues
- Knowledge of risk management in medication usage
- Project management experience
- Ability to critically assess services and processes
- Effective organizational and prioritization skills in the workplace
- Capacity to work independently
- Integrate research evidence into practice
- Identify training needs of staff to fulfill required roles
- Utilization of medical databases to retrieve information
- Experience with formulary management
- Experience in conducting literature evaluations
- Understanding of risk management in medication practices
- Flexibility regarding changes in work schedule
- Able to work flexible and unsocial hours, including late shifts, weekends, and bank holidays as scheduled
