Position Summary

The role involves providing Mechanical Engineering expertise, focusing on the development of processes, plans, and procedures within 3D Experience for the assembly of Satellites and their payloads. Responsibilities include assisting in the hardware assembly of various components such as black boxes, solar arrays, and structural panels, as well as supporting environmental testing at designated facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Project Preparation Phase

  • Assist in the customization phase commencing at project initiation
  • Participate in project DMU (Digital Mock-Up/Design for Manufacture) sessions to ensure manufacturability
  • Contribute to the documentation required for production phases, including ACS inputs, work instructions, and procedural guidelines
  • Lead the installation of satellite appendages and manage integration workflows and preparations.
  • Support the definition and procurement of MGSE for satellite applications
  • Collaborate with the Process Owner team across all facets of their responsibilities

Project Operational Phase

  • Assist the Assembly Integration & Test (AIT) Lead Engineering team during peak workload periods
  • Manage the handling and installation of thermal hardware components (heaters, thermistors)
  • Facilitate the mechanical integration of electronic units, subsystems, instruments, mechanisms, antennas, solar arrays, and other spacecraft components while ensuring proper documentation and processes are followed
  • Prepare and execute environmental tests (Vibration, Acoustic, Mass Properties, Thermal) at unit, subsystem, instrument, and spacecraft levels
  • Support process owners in resolving observations and managing operational activities
  • Oversee unit installation tasks on the satellite
  • Contribute to quality reviews, conduct PFMEA, and perform Root Cause Analysis
  • Assist in developing re-work instructions based on project specifications and identify necessary parts and tools for execution

Non-Project Responsibilities

  • Design tooling and build aids to facilitate assembly processes
  • Provide support to Research & Development initiatives
  • Create and maintain training modules
  • Ensure that working methods and processes are standardized, optimized, and up-to-date.
  • Develop new processes, implement process improvements, and monitor adherence to processes in operational settings.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum HNC level qualification in a Mechanical discipline (a lower qualification may be acceptable with substantial relevant industry experience)
  • Prior experience in AIT is highly advantageous
  • Mechanical experience from the aerospace or aviation sectors is preferred
  • Experience in integrating avionics on spacecraft is beneficial
  • Familiarity with handling and lifting large spacecraft structures
  • Experience in System Testing
  • Hands-on experience at the System level is essential
