Position Overview

Weekly Working Hours

Housekeeping Operatives play a crucial role in ensuring that all areas within our healthcare facility are maintained in a clean and safe condition, allowing our staff to provide optimal care for patients. Responsibilities include: Dusting, utilizing cleaning agents, maintaining hard floors with mops or electric floor cleaning machines, operating vacuum cleaners or carpet cleaning equipment, and sanitizing restroom and bathing facilities.

Housekeeping Operatives are tasked with performing routine cleaning on a daily and/or weekly basis, as well as addressing any urgent situations such as spills. They are also responsible for executing scheduled deep cleaning tasks.

Housekeeping Operatives will clean both non-clinical (office) and clinical (ward/clinic) areas within the healthcare facility.

Strong communication skills are essential, and a courteous and respectful demeanor is required when interacting with patients and their families. It is important to demonstrate dignity and respect towards both staff and patients while performing cleaning duties in wards and clinics.

Key Responsibilities

SECTION 1 - PRIMARY DUTIES:

General Responsibilities

Perform domestic tasks including: General cleaning, high and low dusting, wet and dry mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing floors with mechanical equipment, polishing floors with machines, emptying clinical and general waste bins, cleaning and descaling toilets and sanitary areas, changing curtains, cleaning baths, taps, and showers, isolation cleaning, carpet shampooing, and floor maintenance using appropriate machinery and chemicals as instructed by the Domestic Supervisor.

Ensure a high-quality domestic service is provided to patients and staff within the healthcare facility. Follow established cleaning procedures and schedules, operate mechanical cleaning equipment, and cooperate with new cleaning methods and frequencies as introduced.

Respond to rectifications following audits within a specified timeframe. Inform the Supervisor of any requirements for cleaning materials and verify the delivery of supplies and equipment.

Manage refuse disposal, both clinical and general, and ensure proper storage and labeling in designated collection points. Replenish all disposables, including hand towels, toilet rolls, and soaps. Monitor the health and safety of domestic equipment and report any hazards to the Domestic Supervisor.

Adhere to all method statements and operating procedures, and report all accidents and incidents to the Domestic Supervisor.

Maintain a clean and protective uniform at all times while on duty and utilize relevant Personal Protective Equipment in accordance with Trust policy. Report any signs of infestation to the Domestic Supervisor.

Work in compliance with Health and Safety guidelines regarding the use of cleaning chemicals.

Follow instructions from the Domestic Supervisor when undertaking curtain changes in wards and departments safely.
