Job Title: Electrical Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Property Services Team at Torbay Council. As an Electrical Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality services to our customer base across the Southwest.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the organisation of the workload in the Electrical Building Services Section.
  • Manage a variety of schemes and projects to provide a cost-effective service to our clients.
  • Carry out surveys and feasibility studies, and prepare reports and estimates.
  • Work closely with external clients, architects, building surveyors, and other parties for both internal and external projects.
Requirements:
  • Good knowledge of modern practice in building services engineering, with a practical knowledge of building services engineering on construction sites and existing buildings.
  • Working knowledge of BS 7671 (IEE Regulations), BS5839 (Fire Alarms), BS5266 (Emergency Lighting), Building Management Systems (Schneider Electrics) or similar, and Health & Safety knowledge – Construction Skill Certification Scheme (CSCS Card).
  • Proven or demonstrable track record of supervising contractors and of administering contracts, measurements, and accounts.
  • BTEC HNC in Electrical Building Services Engineering /City & Guilds 4467 Higher Professional Diploma in Electrical Building Services (or equivalent).
  • Skilled in the use of Autocad, and Electrical Building Services engineering design and/or a contracting office.
  • Good customer service skills.
Essential Skills:
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills, including correspondence and report preparation.
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD LT and AutoCAD.
  • Ability and adaptability in electrical engineering practices and design standards in the broad range of buildings and structures found within the regional environment, including urban, commercial, industrial, domestic, leisure, and marine services.
Knowledge:
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of sound electrical engineering practices especially in relation to health and safety, safe methods of working, renewable/sustainable energy/accessibility, e.g., making appropriate provision for wheelchair access/provision for visually impaired.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Procurement process and financial regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance contained within the Building Regulations and current design codes of practice.
Experience & Qualifications:
  • Significant experience of electrical engineering design, survey, taking-off quantities and contract preparation including use of modern computer techniques.
  • Proven or demonstrable track record of supervising contractors and of administering contracts, measurements and accounts.
