About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical/Electrical Technician to join our team at Cranfield University. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for providing technical support to our colleagues, ensuring that we meet customer and legislative requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical workshop machining tasks, including welding, drilling, and marking out of test pieces, as well as electrical fittings such as soldering, wiring leads, and cabling.
  • Utilize CAD software (Solidworks) for designing new test rigs.
  • Be responsible for the procedures and tools for mechanical testing, including the operation of existing test machines, instrumentation, and high-speed photographic equipment.
  • Carry out inspections, maintenance, and repairs of existing rigs and tools.
About You

To succeed in this role, you will have demonstrable engineering machine workshop experience, as well as practical knowledge of material testing. A flexible and positive attitude, a willingness to go the extra mile to meet deadlines, and attention to detail in performing tasks are essential.

It would be advantageous if you have working experience of mechanical crash testing and calibration of instrumentation and/or knowledge of health and safety legislation.
