We are excited to announce an opening for a dedicated Ambulance Vehicle Maintenance Operative to join our committed team at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust. This role involves the meticulous preparation and thorough cleaning of frontline ambulance vehicles, adhering to the established Ambulance Vehicle Preparation (AVP) standards.
Compensation and Benefits
This position offers additional compensation for unsociable hours, with an extra 41% for shifts between 20:00 and 06:00, and 83% for all hours worked during these times on Sundays. Our comprehensive training program includes a Level 2 Apprenticeship and access to Level 2 NCFE qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
The Ambulance Vehicle Maintenance Operative will be responsible for:
- Processing ambulance service vehicles in a systematic and controlled manner to ensure each vehicle is fully equipped and ready to respond to patient needs.
- Performing detailed cleaning and infection prevention activities, inspecting medical and lifting equipment, restocking consumables, and conducting vehicle checks.
- Managing consumable preparation, stock control, refueling, and relocating vehicles as necessary, while accurately documenting daily activities and returning equipment from healthcare facilities.
Cross-site work may be required, with transportation provided during working hours.
No prior experience is necessary, as comprehensive training will be provided. An initial four-week training program is included as part of your professional development.

Work Environment and Expectations
The successful candidate must possess a valid C1 driving license and be prepared to work flexible hours, including weekends and bank holidays, to meet operational demands. A significant portion of the ambulance vehicle preparation occurs overnight, with additional compensation for unsociable hours.
Holiday entitlement ranges from 27 to 33 days (pro-rata), depending on NHS service length, in addition to bank holidays.
