Position Overview
The primary objective of this role is to deliver clinical guidance across all facets of Transfusion Science, with a particular focus on Patient Blood Management (PBM). This position represents a permanent opportunity within a collaborative framework between NHS Blood and Transplant and a leading healthcare institution. The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills and demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
The ideal candidate will have a proven history of successful team leadership, a comprehensive understanding of contemporary NHS operations, and a clear awareness of the responsibilities associated with a senior consultant role.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide medical oversight for transfusion science within the designated region, fostering strong relationships with healthcare facilities to advocate for best practices. This includes active involvement in the Regional Transfusion Committee's initiatives, with potential contributions to committees beyond the immediate area based on national needs.
- Serve as the Regional Consultant for Patient Blood Management and Components within the Hospital Liaison Team, collaborating with management and practitioners to assist healthcare facilities in delivering safe and effective transfusion services.
- Lead and engage in clinical research initiatives, including trials and systematic reviews, to advance the field of transfusion science.
- Participate in regional and national audit projects related to transfusion science, working alongside the National Comparative Audit Team and regional support networks.
- Facilitate the development of clinical benchmarks for the implementation of Patient Blood Management practices.
- Undertake additional medical responsibilities within the Clinical Directorate as necessary, in collaboration with fellow consultants. Coverage for personal study, leave, or illness will be arranged through mutual agreement with senior colleagues.
