Job Purpose

We are seeking a Casual Attraction Assistant to join our team at the National Waterways Museum Gloucester. As a key member of our welcome team, you will provide a warm and welcoming experience for our visitors, ensuring that every visit is memorable and enjoyable.

About the Role

This is a casual opportunity, with no guaranteed rota or set hours. You will work predominantly in the welcome area of the museum, offering a wonderful warm welcome to visitors from all over the world. Your focus will be on making sure that every visit is memorable, and you will be involved in a variety of tasks, including welcoming tour groups, selling popular merchandise, assisting with events and activities, working at our cafe, and directing families around the site.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a warm welcome and a positive customer experience.
  • Sell retail items or support an activity at an event, ensuring every visitor feels welcomed and is keen to return.
  • Ensure that customer excellence is a priority at all times - being approachable and helpful in responding quickly to questions and dealing with enquiries, particularly when on the welcome desk, or by phone/email.
  • Promote and deliver special events.
  • Work flexibly across departments, including retail and admissions/welcome desk, as well as our cafe.
  • Ensure retail stock is kept up to date, replaced, recorded, and help to prepare any stocktaking counts.
  • Support the team with general administrative duties that arise throughout the day, such as distributing post, receiving and recording general deliveries.
Requirements
  • You may have some relevant experience in a similar customer-facing environment, but more importantly, you can demonstrate that you understand what a great customer experience is.
  • Basic IT skills - using Microsoft Office and Internet, and willing to learn our systems.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills - courteous and helpful.
  • Ability to work well under pressure during busy periods and thrive on a busy working environment.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage workload.
