About the Role

This is a challenging opportunity to lead a team of engineers in a technical authority role, responsible for delivering a technical authority and design agency function. The successful candidate will be based in a naval dockyard and will require a 2-day commitment on site.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Technical supervision of staff, including organising training, mentoring, and developmental support.
  • Leading and working within a team of engineers, planning and organising tasks and facilitating progress.
  • Production of design documentation and supporting assessments, acting as lead author where appropriate.
  • Development and delivery of designs in accordance with the design process and relevant legislation.
  • Providing advice to line management and other stakeholders on design documentation and compliance with relevant codes, standards, and legislation.
  • Performing quality checking services and design analyses.
  • Representing the technical authority and providing guidance and leadership to contract staff.
  • Supporting the technical authority for maintaining the design intent of mechanical services systems.
  • Providing technical support, advice, and guidance for optioneering studies, design reviews, and HAZOPS.
  • Supporting the provision, management, and development of professional SQEP'd design engineers.
  • Producing estimates and assisting commercial departments in the production of outgoing tender responses.
Requirements:
  • Relevant engineering experience with a degree or NVQ Level 5 in an engineering discipline and preferably a registered professional status with an institute.
  • Understanding of mechanical engineering principles for the design, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of the design lifecycle, general regulations, legislation, and standards applicable to mechanical services system design.
  • Knowledge of operating within nuclear or other high-hazard environments.
  • Knowledge/experience in managing a small team of engineers.
