Key Responsibilities:

  1. Representation in Care Proceedings:
  • Provide dedicated legal representation for children involved in care proceedings, ensuring their rights are upheld in judicial settings.
  1. Consultation on Child Welfare Issues:
  • Deliver expert legal counsel to children, guardians, and families regarding care proceedings, child protection, and family law issues.
  1. Court Advocacy:
  • Serve as an advocate in court, effectively presenting cases, cross-examining witnesses, and making submissions on behalf of the child or their guardian.
  1. Management of Legal Cases:
  • Oversee a caseload of intricate and sensitive care proceedings, ensuring thorough preparation, including evidence collection, document drafting, and coordination with other professionals.
  1. Client Engagement and Communication:
  • Uphold exceptional standards of client engagement, ensuring clear, compassionate, and effective communication with children, their families, and other involved professionals.
  1. Collaboration with Interdisciplinary Teams:
  • Work in close partnership with social workers, guardians, medical experts, and other professionals to gather pertinent information, provide legal guidance, and formulate case strategies.
  1. Legal Aid Oversight:
  • Ensure adherence to legal aid regulations and manage the financial aspects of cases, including applications for and justifications of legal aid funding when necessary.
  1. Documentation and Reporting for Court:
  • Draft and review court documents, such as statements, orders, and reports, ensuring precision and compliance with legal standards.
  1. Professional Development:
  • Engage in continuous professional development, including training sessions, seminars, and workshops, to enhance legal expertise and advocacy skills.
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Qualified Childcare Solicitor (must hold Child Panel accreditation)
  • Experienced in advising families on care proceedings and legally aided matters
  • Familiarity with complex cases involving medical considerations is beneficial
  • Proven experience in representing children in care proceedings
