Job Title: Commissioning Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Commissioning Engineer to join our team at RES, the world's largest independent renewable energy company. As a Commissioning Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and successful commissioning of our renewable energy assets.

Job Purpose:

The Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for performing commissioning activities on switchgear, transformers, generation (or storage) assets, and related equipment on both AC & DC systems. This will include supervising/performing commissioning activities, carrying out protection and control testing, and attending site to interact with suppliers, construction teams, sub-contractors, and grid connection providers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure a safe and healthy working environment for yourself and others at office or site locations.
  • Supervise/perform commissioning activities on switchgear, transformers, generation (or storage) assets, and related equipment.
  • Carry out protection and control testing on generation (or storage), HV & LV assets to diagnose any faults and organize repairs.
  • Attend site and interact with suppliers, construction teams, sub-contractors, and grid connection providers to ensure safe and successful commissioning.
  • Perform SAT, system start-up testing, and coordination with utilities for energization of interconnection.
  • Undertake FAT, including reviewing procedures, attending FAT, and adjusting commissioning tasks to integrate FAT successes and deficiencies.
  • Track and resolve issues by working with HV SAPs/project managers and any sub-contractors.
  • Be involved in the tendering process for new renewable sites and provide input into commissioning aspects.
  • Provide in-house training and support to our HV SAP team to widen the scope of the business's abilities for our clients.
Requirements:
  • Detailed knowledge of commissioning practices and testing.
  • Ability to provide technical support and guidance.
  • Knowledge of the key legislation underpinning UK high voltage electrical asset operation and maintenance.
  • Detailed knowledge of UK industry HV electrical safety rules.
Desirable:
  • Knowledge of solar farm assets.
Experience:
  • Experienced Commissioning Engineer/Commissioning Manager.
  • Experience commissioning primary and secondary plant.
  • Commissioning and fault finding HV plant and equipment.
  • HV protection testing.
  • Experience of HV & LV equipment.
  • Complex Protection relay testing and commissioning.
Qualifications:
  • Commissioning Engineer.
  • SAP authorisation/previously held SAP authorisation under high voltage electrical safety rules.
  • Relevant Degree/HND or equivalent industry experience.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • Full UK driving license.
