Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, United Kingdom SF Recruitment (Nottingham) Full time
Position Overview

Are you an experienced Tax professional seeking a rewarding opportunity within a renowned global brand?
We are excited to present a unique opening for a UK Tax Specialist with a prominent retail organization operating in a specialized market sector, following the retirement of the current role holder.

This position offers an attractive compensation package, including a salary of up to £63,000, potential bonuses of up to 20%, a company vehicle, hybrid working arrangements, and a variety of additional benefits.

Role Responsibilities
This newly defined role will report to a proactive Financial Controller, serving as the primary expert for all tax-related inquiries within the UK division of the company. While there are no direct reports associated with this position, a key aspect is your willingness to provide guidance and actively participate in the timely submission of corporation and VAT tax returns, acting as the primary contact for all tax matters (including corporation tax, VAT, payroll, customer duties, and international issues such as transfer pricing).

You will benefit from comprehensive support and a detailed handover from the outgoing Tax Specialist, ensuring a seamless transition into your new position.

Key Duties Include:

  • Implementing and upholding the principles and guidelines of the Group Tax policy within the UK.
  • Preparing and managing accurate and timely filing of all local income tax and indirect tax returns, ensuring compliance with UK and relevant foreign tax regulations, including corporation tax, VAT returns, and other business-specific tax obligations.
  • Maintaining relationships with HMRC and other tax professionals to uphold a low tax risk profile for UK affiliates.
  • Ensuring accurate accounting for income and deferred tax provisions under local and IFRS GAAP, along with preparation and submission of related analyses for group and statutory reporting.
  • Forecasting prospective direct tax liabilities and cash flows for tax planning and financial reporting purposes.
  • Assisting the Group Tax department with international tax analyses.
  • Monitoring transfer pricing for the UK affiliate in collaboration with local and headquarters tax and controlling departments.
  • Identifying potential tax exposures and savings, and developing and implementing solutions.
  • Participating in extraordinary projects, opportunities, due diligence, and structuring new investments in cooperation with headquarters.
  • Managing tax audit inquiries across all taxes in collaboration with the Group Tax department.
  • Ensuring relevant tax knowledge and awareness among UK affiliates, and supporting financial accounting, transactional finance teams, and payroll/HR departments on tax-related matters.
  • Collaborating with and advising local managers and peers on tax aspects of business projects.
  • Managing relationships with external tax advisors.

Candidate Profile
Essential qualifications for this role include:

  • CTA/ACA/ACCA qualification.
  • Extensive UK Tax advisory experience within a large corporate environment or closely collaborating with large corporates if transitioning from practice.
  • Strong technical accounting capabilities.
  • Proficient Excel skills, complemented by analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the capacity to engage with individuals across the organization.

The ideal candidate will either be currently working in an industry tax specialist role or looking to transition from a practice-based tax specialization. Experience in a manufacturing context would be beneficial but is not mandatory.

Working Conditions
The role operates from 9 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with hybrid working available on a 3/2 basis (office versus home-based). Some flexibility in working hours can be discussed based on requirements.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary of up to £70,000 per annum.
  • 33 days of annual leave (including bank holidays).
  • Pension scheme with linked life insurance.
  • Service-related payment following the probation period.
  • Bonus scheme ranging from 10-20% of annual salary (with an average payout of 15% over the last three years).
  • Company vehicle or car allowance.
  • Private healthcare membership.
  • Employee discount program.
  • Employee assistance program.
  • Discounted product vouchers.
  • Bike-to-work scheme (salary sacrifice).
