The Role

We are seeking a skilled professional to support the Head of Group Transport in overseeing and enhancing the Plant and Transport operations within our organization.

Your mission will be to ensure the delivery of exceptional customer service while upholding the highest standards of safety, legality, ethics, and environmental responsibility.

This position will involve managing approximately 30% of our fleet, which consists of 150 vehicles.

Key Responsibilities...

In collaboration with the Head of Group Transport, you will:

  • Prioritize the Health & Safety of all individuals interacting with Lawsons in every decision-making process.
  • Act as a strong proponent of Lawsons' Mission and Values, promoting the ethos of "Family Values - Professional Service" throughout your team and the broader organization.
  • Ensure compliance with Company and Statutory regulations regarding operator licensing, health & safety, service quality, driver hours, and tachograph requirements within your region.
  • Assist in the development of training programs for both new and existing drivers, ensuring they operate safely and represent Lawsons effectively.
  • Enforce current legislation and keep the organization informed of forthcoming changes.
  • Support the management of procurement for plant, vehicles, and related items, ensuring budgetary control.
  • Monitor driver performance and proactively address any negative feedback to maintain a positive reputation for Lawsons.
  • Strive to enhance fleet efficiency, maximizing payload while minimizing costs without compromising safety or service quality.
  • Continuously assess existing processes and explore innovative solutions with the Transport Management Team.
  • Collect and analyze data related to all transport activities in your region.
  • Communicate effectively with the Transport Management Team to achieve organizational goals.
  • Assist the Transport Management Team with Improvement & Development initiatives.
  • Perform any additional duties as requested by the Board, for which training and/or guidance has been provided.

Person Profile:

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven leadership skills and experience.
  • Demonstrable track record in a similar role.
  • CPC Holder.
  • Strong geographical knowledge of the distribution area.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all levels.
  • Ability to cultivate strong internal and external relationships to enhance the company's profile.
  • Expertise in negotiation and influence.
  • Team-oriented with a hands-on approach.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and understand the impact of one's actions on others.
  • Commitment to achieving high standards of excellence.
  • Commercially aware and customer-focused.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, with the ability to perform accurately in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience in the Timber and Building Merchants sector.
  • Multi-site transport management experience.
