We are seeking a skilled and experienced Cable Engineering professional to join our Transmission & Distribution practice. This role offers the opportunity to enhance your expertise while contributing to transformative projects that support the energy transition.

Key Responsibilities:

The primary focus of this position is to support the team in the design and execution of cable systems activities. You will also provide your technical knowledge for bids and proposals and represent the company in client discussions as needed.

Your main responsibilities will include:
  • HVDC/HVAC Cable Calculations: Conduct cable burial route risk assessments and develop cable protection systems for offshore and subsea applications.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Utilize established procedures to gather and analyze engineering data, producing detailed cable reports.
  • Offshore Engineering Assignments: Develop designs for HVAC/HVDC, IAC, and export cables, addressing both static and dynamic systems.
  • Problem-Solving: Propose solutions for challenges encountered, adapting standard procedures or methods from previous projects.
  • Design Optimization: Review and enhance design, routing, installation, commissioning, and decommissioning processes.
Your projects will encompass:
  • HVDC Interconnectors
  • HVAC Interconnectors
  • Offshore Wind Farm Projects (HVAC and HVDC)
This role provides opportunities to:
  • Execute tasks independently while adhering to budget and schedule.
  • Perform essential design elements for engineering projects in compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Coordinate across various project disciplines and external partners to identify and mitigate technical risks, ensuring all regulatory requirements are fulfilled.

Modernizing the UK's Energy Infrastructure

AECOM has been selected to provide design and consenting services for a significant initiative aimed at enhancing the electricity transmission network, ensuring the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid, which will also support future projects.

Qualifications:

We are looking for candidates with:
  • A qualification in electrical/electronic/power engineering or a related field (HNC, HND, BSc/BEng, MSc/MEng).
  • Professional accreditation in Electrical Engineering (CEng Chartered Engineer or working towards it).
  • Experience with software tools for desktop studies and report generation, such as Cymcap, Cableizer, and COMSOL.
  • Knowledge of HVAC and HVDC transmission principles and requirements management.
  • Understanding of power systems' functional characteristics.
