Job Description

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Control Systems Engineer to join our team at the Institute of the Motor Industry. limited. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for developing real-time control software for battery-powered electric vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with our Head of Whole Vehicle and Head of T+D software to develop software that meets the latest legislative, functional safety, cost, and performance standards.
  2. Re-engineer and re-architect proof-of-concept strategies to ensure they are suitable for use in production vehicles.
  3. Provide support for in-vehicle testing, powertrain testing, and calibration.
  4. Verify and validate control software using Model-In-The-Loop (MIL) and Hardware-In-The-Loop (HIL) testing.
  5. Develop clear and concise documentation to ensure seamless communication with the team.
  6. Contribute to the improvement of the software, focusing on enhancing vehicle reliability, efficiency, and driving refinement.

Requirements:

  1. Working knowledge of auto-coding with the MathWorks toolchain: Simulink, Stateflow, and Embedded Coder.
  2. Proficiency in C or C++ programming languages, particularly for embedded applications.
  3. Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow.
  4. Familiarity with HIL systems, such as dSpace.
  5. Knowledge of automotive serial communications protocols, including CAN and Flexray.
  6. Experience with automotive calibration software, such as Etas INCA and Vector CANape.
  7. Demonstrable expertise in low-voltage (LV) system design in automotive applications.
  8. Ability to perform root cause analysis efficiently.
  9. Strong understanding of LV component design and construction.
  10. Experience with automotive standards and communication protocols.
  11. High standards for documentation and organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience developing prototype software on rapid-prototyping controllers, such as Pi OpenECU and GEMS.
  2. Working knowledge of electric motors and inverters.
  3. Working knowledge of Li-ion battery cells and battery management systems.
  4. Experience developing software for safety-critical automotive applications, such as ISO standards.
  5. Experience with scripting in MATLAB or Python.
