Job Summary

This is a fixed-term Consultant Cardiologist position within the Cardiology Department, based at Croydon University Hospital. The successful applicant will join a dynamic team.

Main Duties
  • Provide a General Adult Cardiology and sub-specialist Heart Failure service, including all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the department and patient flow across the Directorate.
  • Participate in a 1:8 rota as the Duty Cardiologist of the week.
  • Support, where skills permit, consultant cardiologist colleagues in the provision of other cardiology services, such as non-invasive Imaging, Cardiac Pacing, and diagnostic Cardiac Catheterisations.
  • Contribute to the delivery of advice and education for local GPs.
  • Lead and deliver a modern acute and chronic heart failure service.
  • Carry out/report CMR studies at King's College London (KCL) 1 day a week. If the post holder has any further interests in Imaging, such as CT or Echo, these can also be facilitated at CUH.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration.
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent.
  • CMR Level 3 accreditation.

Desirable

  • Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent).
  • EACVI or SCMR Level 3 accreditation in Cardiovascular MRI.
  • British Society of Echocardiography accreditation for transthoracic echocardiography (or equivalent).
  • Membership of the British Society for Heart Failure.

Training & Experience

  • Comprehensive training on a recognised SpR programme in Cardiology (or equivalent).
  • High standard of clinical skill and expertise in the management of heart failure.
  • Ability to independently undertake all required cardiology on-call activity, temporary pacing wire insertion.

Desirable

  • Comprehensive training in a recognised Heart Failure subspecialty training programme.
  • Evidence of contribution to development of Heart Failure services.

Management & Leadership

  • Experience in day-to-day organisation of services in a busy teaching hospital.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Has attended a recognised management training event or will have such training on completion of CCST.
  • Ability to organise and manage work.

Desirable

  • Experience in the development of clinical guidelines.
  • Management course and/or qualification.
  • Experience of undergraduate teaching.
  • Clinical Management experience.

Audit / Research

  • Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit. Must have undertaken and completed audit projects.
  • Clinical presentations.
  • Evidence of original work as demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Desirable

  • Experience of clinical research.
  • Publication of relevant review articles or case reports.

Personal Skills

  • Effective communicator, able to work in a multidisciplinary team and co-operate with all medical and paramedical staff.
  • Flexible, able to cover colleagues' absence.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Inquisitive, critical approach to work.
  • Professional attitude towards work, reliability, good record of attendance, and tidy personal appearance.

Teaching

  • Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and exam preparation.
