About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Optical Systems Engineer to join our R&D team at the Octagon Group. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering complex scientific instrumentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define system design and specification, covering concept development, design calculations, or modeling for optical, mechanical, electronic, or algorithmic aspects of the system.
  • Manage design verification activities, including running design reviews, as well as design and execution of test plans for prototype evaluation.
  • Investigate selected manufacturing/field failures to determine root cause and initiate remedial actions.
  • Understand products' performance parameters both at the system and sub-system level.
  • Guide junior staff members in executing test plans and interpreting results.
  • Participate in troubleshooting activities, including root cause analysis, for new product development and ongoing manufacturing issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Physics or a related subject.
  • Extensive experience in the design, troubleshooting, and manufacture of optical equipment.
  • Experience in technical leadership roles.
  • Experience of working within a structured development program.
  • High level of engineering, physics, and math knowledge.
  • Ability to use complex software.
