We are seeking an experienced VAT Accountant to join our client, a prestigious private school in Berkshire, on a 6-month fixed-term contract or day rate basis.
Key Responsibilities- Implement VAT excellence across processes, systems, and people, ensuring compliance with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) rules and regulations.
- Produce and submit accurate and timely monthly and annual VAT Returns, reconciled to the General Ledger, within HMRC timeframe rules.
- Ensure all VAT reclaimable from HMRC is received and reconciled, and that any VAT due to be paid to HMRC is paid on a timely basis.
- Administer Voluntary Disclosures to HMRC for errors above the threshold for adjustment within the VAT Return.
- Assist with VAT advice to the Director of Finance and Operations, liaising with the school's appointed VAT Consultants as necessary.
- Ensure VAT/Tax knowledge within the school's finance team is current and up to date.
- Contribute to the full range of financial activities, including budgeting, management accounts, statutory accounts, purchase and sales ledger work, and financial regulation.
- Specialist knowledge of VAT, with experience in VAT application and process.
- Ability to work in a small finance team, with flexibility to work remotely on occasion.
- Eligibility to work in the UK without restriction.
