Position Overview:
As the Senior Recycling Engagement Officer, you will spearhead the recycling enhancement and community engagement initiatives aimed at fostering increased public involvement and promoting behavioral changes that contribute to enhanced environmental quality, waste reduction, and improved recycling practices.
Your role will involve the development and execution of the Council's Recycling Improvement and Engagement strategy through proficient service planning and management to achieve the following objectives:
- Enhanced participation from residents and key stakeholders.
- A measurable decrease in waste and the establishment of a network for reuse activities.
- An increase in recycling rates and a reduction in contamination levels across the Borough.
- A comprehensive engagement program tailored for educational institutions.
- Improvements in service provision and infrastructure at residential blocks and estates.
Additionally, you will support the formulation and implementation of the waste management strategy objectives in alignment with evolving national and regional policies and legislation.
Your efforts will focus on empowering individuals to take responsibility for their waste management, thereby mitigating environmental impacts. You will guide the community in reducing waste, increasing recycling efforts, and caring for their local environment.
To ensure exceptional customer service standards, you will effectively manage, investigate, and resolve complaints, inquiries, and service requests.
Furthermore, you will leverage information and resources to enhance communication and engagement with residents, businesses, and visitors.
Your role will also involve fostering knowledge and expertise across all Environmental Services teams to drive community engagement and promote sustainable waste management behaviors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to inquiries from residents via various communication channels, providing assistance and resolving issues at the first point of contact.
- Collaborate with the Flats Recycling Manager to ensure the successful delivery of the Flats Recycling Project by building partnerships with housing providers and landlords to enhance waste and recycling initiatives.
- Design and implement a waste awareness and educational program for schools and other educational institutions, ensuring they have adequate waste and recycling facilities and support for increased participation.
- Oversee the management and development of a team of up to four Officers to assist with project objectives.
- Engage with key stakeholders and contractors to plan and organize community recycling, waste reduction, and reuse initiatives and events.
- Research and develop outreach initiatives to improve community waste and recycling behaviors, such as establishing recycling champions and special interest groups.
- Prepare and maintain realistic project plans in accordance with the Council's project management procedures, defining tasks and milestones while tracking progress.
- Identify, record, report, and manage project risks, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Establish and manage a community composting scheme, including overseeing the home composting initiative and managing supplies and equipment.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Strong knowledge of administrative and office systems.
- Proven understanding of waste management services and recycling programs.
- Experience in a recycling or waste management setting.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising or managing staff.
- Experience working with community organizations.
- Proven track record in project management and delivery.
- Experience in data analysis, report preparation, and drawing actionable conclusions.
