Charles River Community Health (CRCH) is seeking a committed leader in primary care to spearhead the transformation of healthcare services across various locations. The Chief Medical Officer will ensure that healthcare providers achieve objectives related to patient care, productivity, and quality standards. This role encompasses oversight of the primary care division, which includes family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, preventive care, women's health, and complex care, along with collaboration with clinical and educational partners. A vital aspect of this position is to engage with the community we serve and guide the primary care team on critical issues affecting patient and clinical care.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for recruiting and managing physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. Conducts performance evaluations and oversees training initiatives at assigned locations for primary care staff.

Collaborates with the Chief Clinical Officer and Human Resources to develop and implement strategies for resilience and retention of medical staff, ensuring stable staffing and patient access to care.

Advocates for key initiatives and changes aimed at enhancing workforce efficiency, patient care, and overall organizational performance, effectively communicating these to medical staff.

Ensures adequate coverage for on-site and telehealth services during peak periods, including approving time-off requests and arranging substitute providers as necessary. Provides medical coverage at any CRCH site when no other coverage is available.

Regularly assesses productivity and quality metrics to evaluate departmental performance against established goals, addressing any issues with providers to enhance outcomes.

Engages in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement activities as required, ensuring compliance with clinical and regulatory standards, including regular peer reviews.

Supports the Director of Population Health and Quality in implementing necessary changes to meet or exceed expectations of the Accountable Care Organization programs CRCH participates in, while educating providers about these programs.

Acts as a liaison for CRCH with affiliate hospitals and other healthcare and community organizations as needed, representing CRCH's interests in community groups and events.

Participates in community outreach, health education, and screening initiatives, coordinating the involvement of other healthcare providers.

PROVIDER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Evaluates and treats patients, including walk-ins, prescribes medications, and provides preventive, chronic, and acute healthcare advice and case management. Assesses the psychological impact of illnesses and refers patients for further evaluation and treatment as necessary.

Offers consultation to mid-level medical providers upon request and supervises them in the absence of the assigned supervising provider.

Maintains continuity of care for CRCH patients utilizing other healthcare facilities, including referrals and follow-ups on results.

Participates in 24-hour on-call medical coverage and engages in both on-site and off-site outreach and continuing education programs to ensure ongoing professional development.

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Contributes to the development and evaluation of evidence-based protocols.

Participates in staff meetings, quality assurance, and medical audit activities in accordance with CRCH procedures.

Trains staff on evidence-based protocols and provides clinical supervision to ensure high standards of care.

Conducts regular supervision for each provider and performs peer reviews.

Leads the Provider Meeting for medical staff.

PRODUCTIVITY EXPECTATIONS: Expected to meet CRCH standards of productivity as outlined in the organization's operating budget.

TIME COMMITMENT:

4 direct care sessions per week.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess a current Massachusetts medical license.

Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience required.

Must apply for and obtain privileges at affiliated hospitals.

Previous experience in an ambulatory care setting is preferred.

Experience working with diverse populations is advantageous.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Proven ability to lead, make data-driven decisions, and address the needs of patients, providers, and the organization effectively.

Strong coaching and mentoring skills to resolve daily issues and conflicts, fostering a positive practice culture and access to patient care.
