Job Title: Senior R&D Technologist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior R&D Technologist to join our team. As a key member of our R&D department, you will be responsible for leading the development of new products and processes, and driving innovation across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage development projects from concept to delivery, and be the principal development contact for projects both internally and externally.
  • Keep the NPD manager informed of project progress, highlighting anticipated and actual issues as early in the process as possible.
  • Manage project progress and status monthly via the Launch Meeting, Trackers, and the C2L/Clarizen Process.
  • Oversee projects through the C2L/Clarizen system from brief to launch, including maintenance of accurate and detailed project records.
  • Support, motivate, and develop the NPD and GD Technologist and Technician effectively.
  • Provide technical expertise and mentoring to the NPD, purchasing, operational, and commercial teams.
  • Develop and review the C2L/Clarizen process to ensure it meets the needs of the business and customers.
  • Liaise with the project leader/lead commercial/Clarizen Project Leader to agree timings for the development elements within the project plan and ensure they are delivered to achieve the target launch date.
  • Monitor final product costs throughout the C2L/Clarizen process and advise the project team of any deviation and advise on corrective action as appropriate.
  • Evolve the R&D process to enable research of ingredients and processes that will provide innovative and competitive advantage for the business.
  • Participate in the composition of factory operating procedures and QA measurements/standards for individual projects.
  • Ensure all new products are discussed with the technical team in relation to HACCP.
  • Participate in and lead cross-functional Project Teams as required.
  • Develop a method that identifies and recommends value engineering projects on existing products within the product categories.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire co-workers.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, able to engage and influence with key functions of the business.
  • Self-motivated, tenacious, and able to drive performance of self and encourage team members.
  • Capable and comfortable in leading/supporting challenging situations with the ability to present a reasoned argument/case.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective and constructive relationships with key customers, suppliers, and internal customers.
  • Process driven, demonstrating a rigorous adherence.
  • Passionate about food.
  • Contribute to the food culture within the NPD team and business.
  • Contribute to the development of the various commercial/category strategy with a key focus on food, innovation, and process.
  • Develop innovation through sourcing, process, and creative improvements.
  • Work closely with the NPD team and commercial functions to ensure product briefs are fully understood and NPD is fit for purpose.
  • Contribute to the food element of awards, events, and exhibitions attended by the company.
  • Ensure all new products developed and launched meet relevant legal and customers' requirements.
  • Establish links with external bodies, suppliers, and individuals to advance BI-UK technical/development expertise.
  • Actively promote and comply with all employment policies and procedures of the Company.
  • Take ownership of your Personnel Development Plan, ensuring that your development needs are met to develop your role and business overall.
  • Support and encourage a positive and open culture within which individuals are encouraged to participate and be involved; where achievement is recognised, and colleagues are provided with the opportunity to develop and maximise their performance.
  • Support and promote best practice in relation to all aspects of people management, always ensuring fairness and consistency of approach.
