An overview of the role.

The primary responsibility is to effectively oversee the daily operations of the Depot, ensuring the delivery of exceptional customer service while meeting established business performance indicators.

Why this role is significant.

Provide direction, issue work directives, and assess the performance of the traffic management team, including a review of Depot performance metrics related to Service, Safety, and Profitability.

Operationally supervise the daily shift activities at the depot, including driver oversight, and guarantee vehicle readiness through close collaboration with fleet management.

Lead, inspire, train, and develop the team as necessary.

Address underperformance effectively, applying disciplinary measures when required.

Manage employee attendance, including conducting return-to-work discussions.

Oversee the planning for the initiation of new projects and tactical route adjustments. Address seasonal challenges, such as public holidays, ensuring resources and routes are optimized to meet customer demands.

Daily, ensure that routing and service challenges are resolved, taking ultimate responsibility for the customer service experience. Occasionally, conduct customer visits.

Contribute to ongoing cost management, actively seeking ways to enhance efficiency, lower operational costs, increase profit margins, and achieve budgetary goals.

Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety regulations, including training, operational protocols, near-miss reporting, and emergency procedures.

Foster positive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Perform any reasonable tasks as required by the Company from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience:

Experience

  • Background in the Services or Logistics sector
  • Management of personnel and health & safety in a unionized setting
  • Proven history of achieving defined service delivery performance metrics
  • Demonstrated experience in effective resource management and cost control
  • Familiarity with route planning software such as Route Monkey, DPS (LogiX), etc.

Technical Expertise

  • Understanding of transport regulations
  • CPC Certification
  • Knowledge of local geography
  • Strong transport and logistics acumen
  • Awareness of current and upcoming environmental and health and safety regulations
  • Comprehension of the requirements for operating within a time-sensitive service environment
