Position Overview

Job Title: Lead PHP Engineer

Compensation: Up to £70,000

Work Arrangement: Hybrid - candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance.

Your Responsibilities:
As a Lead PHP Engineer, you will be instrumental in the design and upkeep of custom software solutions, encompassing both innovative projects and legacy systems. Your focus will be on delivering high-caliber, reliable, and secure software products. You are expected to produce clean, reusable, and well-documented code, in line with established development methodologies and design principles.

You will adhere to the technical design guidelines and coding standards established by the Head of Software Development and the Chief Technology Officer. Your responsibilities will include writing unit tests, engaging in code evaluations, and collaborating closely with Product Owners, Developers, Testers, Designers, DevOps Engineers, and other relevant stakeholders. You will also liaise with external vendors and partners as necessary. Furthermore, you will contribute to a technical knowledge repository, participate in production code deployments, and mentor junior members of the development team.

Keeping abreast of the latest advancements in technology and software development practices will be vital for your success in this position.

Qualifications:

  • Object-Oriented Programming: Extensive experience in Object-Oriented programming.
  • PHP, MySQL, and JavaScript/Typescript: Strong background in these technologies.
  • PHP Frameworks: Proficient in at least one PHP framework, preferably Laravel or Lumen.
  • Cloud-Based SaaS Solutions: Proven experience in architecting and developing cloud-based SaaS solutions.
  • Microservices Architecture: Practical experience with microservices architecture.
  • Unit Testing and Design Patterns: Solid experience with unit testing and a strong understanding of design patterns.
  • Agile Methodologies: Experience working in collaborative Agile (Scrum/Kanban) environments.
  • Version Control Systems: Proficiency with distributed version control tools like Git or Mercurial.
  • CSS Preprocessors: Familiarity with SASS, LESS, or similar technologies.
  • Cybersecurity: Strong knowledge of software vulnerabilities and their mitigations.
  • JIRA & Confluence: Practical experience using these project management tools.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical problem solver with a proactive mindset.
  • Independence and Team Collaboration: Self-motivated, independent thinker with a positive attitude, who also excels in a team setting.
