About the Role
Boeing is seeking a highly skilled Safety Management System Investigator to join our C-17 Programme team. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our operations and contributing to the development of our Safety Management System.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Local and Safety Investigations in response to occurrence reports, working closely with on-site Safety Officials to ensure timely and effective investigations.
- Support C-17 related Event Review Groups, providing safety investigation inputs and metrics.
- Track and monitor investigation recommendations and actions, ensuring effective implementation and closure.
- Contribute to the development and sustainment of a strong Positive and Just Safety Culture within the UK C-17 programme.
- Support Safety communication briefs to management, leadership teams, and the workforce, promoting a culture of safety and transparency.
- Manage C-17 occurrence reports, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- Support the production of promotion campaigns and material based on investigation findings, highlighting best practices and lessons learned.
- Facilitate Hazard Working Groups to create and mature C-17 BowTies, identifying and mitigating risks.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the C-17 SMS, ensuring it remains effective and efficient.
- Deliver SMS training to all C-17 on-site staff, promoting a culture of safety and compliance.
Essential Competencies
- Formal training in Investigation principles, such as MEDA, Baines Simmons, or Cranfield 1-week course.
- Experience in leading Investigations using established investigation techniques and practices.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to produce and deliver succinct presentations to Senior Management and the workforce.
- HNC (minimum) in Engineering or equivalent operator experience in flying or support to aviation activities such as maintenance.
- Experience in Just Culture methodology and application.
- Experience in using civil and/or military safety reporting tools.
- Strong technical and analytical acumen, underpinned with good written skills.
- Good understanding of Military and Civilian aviation regulations and their application.
- Diplomatic and strong-minded, with excellent interpersonal skills, to effectively interface with UK MoD customers, suppliers, and Boeing stakeholders.
Desirable Competencies/Qualifications
- Experience with common safety tools, such as Risk Registers, BowTie, and Incident XP for safety investigation results.
- Aircraft maintenance/operational experience of no less than 5 years.
- Occurrence Review Group training and experience.
- Formal Safety Management Systems training and experience.
- Experience in mentoring and coaching.
Work Authorisation
This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Boeing will not attempt to obtain Immigration and labour sponsorship for any applicants.
Security Clearance
This position requires the ability to obtain a UK security clearance for which the Government requires UK Citizenship.
