About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Data Engineer to join our Data Science team at Higher-AI Recruitment. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing mid-to-low level data engineering systems, delivering hands-on implementation using various components of our data stack, and fostering a culture of best practices in modularity, scalability, version control, and observability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement data engineering systems that meet the needs of our business
  • Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines using cloud-based technologies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address blockers within the team
  • Provide clear communication and decision-making around trade-offs and priorities
Requirements
  • 5-7 years' experience as a Backend Engineer or Data Engineer, with at least 3 years as a Data Engineer
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Experience with data-intensive products, either in terms of volume (Big Data) or workload scale
  • Proven experience with data lakes/warehouses/lakehouses on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Proven ability to build scalable data pipelines
  • Familiarity with modern workflow managers (e.g. Airflow, Prefect, Dagster, Temporal)
  • Ability to work autonomously while aligning with product requirements
  • Excellent communication skills – capable of interacting with colleagues at all levels
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Spark or dbt
  • Experience in deploying production systems on multiple cloud platforms
  • Familiarity with MLOps principles and practices in a production setting
