Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Archaeological Expert to join our team at Dumfries & Galloway Council. As an Archaeological Expert, you will play a key role in providing archaeological advice to the Council in relation to statutory planning work, the preparation of local plans, and directly associated historic built environment matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice on archaeological matters related to planning applications and local plans.
  • Conduct research and analysis to inform policy development and planning decisions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement heritage policy and planning initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including developers, community groups, and other external partners.
  • Stay up-to-date with current policy legislation and procedures in relation to the planning system and the historic environment in Scotland.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Archaeology or a related field.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution (e.g. Society of Antiquaries of Scotland).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.

Working Arrangements

This is a fixed-term position for up to 2 years. The post may be suitable for attachment, subject to agreement from your line manager.
