Position Overview

This role is pivotal in ensuring high-quality patient care at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The primary responsibilities will be centered around acute medical services, with the possibility of involvement at various locations as necessary. This position encompasses all facets of patient evaluation and treatment.

Acute Assessment Unit (AAU)

The Acute Assessment Unit is equipped with 30 assessment spaces (trolleys/beds) dedicated to the evaluation and management of patients requiring urgent care. You will have the chance to assess patients in critical care settings and ensure continuity of care in collaboration with specialty medicine and critical care teams. This role will enhance your skills and confidence in managing acute medical cases through consultant-led ward rounds, preparing you for future independent practice.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide medical coverage for the Acute Medical Service, including the Acute Assessment Unit and Medical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) on a 7-day basis.

- Conduct thorough patient assessments.

- Manage clerical duties and documentation in patient records.

- Perform patient reviews efficiently.

- Ensure timely updates to patient management systems.

- Participate in Acute Medicine clinics.

- Engage in Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings.

- Facilitate daily board rounds with the MDT.

- Triage patients to appropriate medical teams or acute physicians as necessary.

- Address and resolve patient issues on the ward.

- Participate actively in ward rounds.

- Engage in the medical on-call shift rotation.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Completion of a minimum of four years of full-time postgraduate training, including at least two years in a relevant specialty training program or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in managing Acute Adult Medical Admissions at SpR level or ST2.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and the ability to make sound clinical judgments.
  • MBBS or equivalent qualification.

Desirable

  • Recognition or awards during undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
  • MRCP, MRCS, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Skills & Competencies

Essential

  • Effective communication skills with both patients and colleagues.
  • Ability to articulate clearly in both written and spoken English, fostering rapport and understanding.

Desirable

  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) or equivalent certification.
