Job Title: Band 6 Chemotherapy Nurse

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Band 6 Chemotherapy Nurse to join our team in the Chemotherapy Day Unit at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust.

The successful candidate will have experience in chemotherapy administration and a strong understanding of chemotherapy regimens and haematology/oncological conditions. They will be able to work autonomously and as part of a team, providing exceptional care to patients and contributing to the development of our chemotherapy service.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that an individual programme of care is planned, implemented, and evaluated for each patient within own sphere of responsibility.
  • Work as part of the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of a high standard of care to patients.
  • Take charge of the day unit in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse as required.
  • Adhere to the NMC code of Professional Conduct at all times and ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Safely administer chemotherapy in keeping with local and national policy.

Person Specification:

  • Recognised Chemotherapy/SACT course
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • IV drug administration certificate
  • First-level degree in a health-related subject or working towards
  • Advanced Communication Skills Training
  • Completed UKONS SACT Competency Passport

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Relevant post-registration experience at Band 6 or above in an outpatient chemotherapy setting
  • Chemotherapy administration and in-depth knowledge of chemotherapy regimens and haematology/oncological conditions
  • Experience of advising on the management of treatment-related toxicities
  • Ability to deal with complex clinical scenarios
  • Evidence of some management experience
  • Previous experience of teaching and developing teaching materials
  • Previous experience in a post involving clinical and managerial responsibilities

Skills, Abilities, and Attributes:

  • Cannulation and phlebotomy skills
  • Competent in the care and management of Central Venous Access Devices (Port-a-Cath and PICC lines)
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Use of electronic prescribing systems
  • Excellent communication skills, written, verbal, non-verbal, and with the multidisciplinary team
  • Leadership and motivational skills
