The Opportunity:
We are looking for a dedicated Post-Doctoral Research Associate to become a vital part of our innovative Chemical Biology team led by Prof Akane Kawamura within the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences. This role is pivotal in the exploration, development, and assessment of cyclic peptide inhibitors and ligands targeting significant protein entities. This position is supported by funding from the European Research Council.
Role Duration: Fixed term for 12 months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enhance the technology platform for more effective hit identification and optimization.
- Conduct biochemical and biophysical assays to evaluate the activity of cyclic peptides against biological targets, employing synthetic chemistry and peptide synthesis to refine compounds for specific biological inquiries.
- Support the efficient operation of the group, providing guidance and information, and supervising fellow group members in their research planning and specialized training.
- Uphold intellectual rigor and ethical standards to ensure the integrity of research.
Candidate Profile:
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- Expertise in medicinal chemistry or peptide chemistry.
- Experience in the biophysical and biochemical characterization of proteins.
- Demonstrated success in previous research areas, evidenced by a strong publication record in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
- Comprehensive knowledge of related fields through literature review, database research, and participation in seminars and conferences.
- Exceptional communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Adherence to best practices in research and record-keeping, ensuring compliance with local policies and legal requirements.
- Ability to conduct research independently, manage personal projects, and report progress regularly.
Qualifications:
Applicants should hold a PhD in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or a related discipline (or have submitted a PhD thesis prior to commencing the role).
