Stornoway, Western Isles, United Kingdom Scottish Water Full time

Join Us in Ensuring Scotland's Water Quality.

At Scottish Water, we are dedicated to maintaining the purity of water that flows to every household and managing the wastewater effectively.

As a Water Quality Technician, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the quality of Scotland's water supply.

Your Responsibilities

You will become part of a skilled team focused on monitoring and enhancing water quality at our treatment facilities and pumping stations.

Your adherence to our operational procedures will guide you in managing the plant effectively – this includes calibrating instruments, overseeing filtration systems, and monitoring tank levels. You will also be responsible for documenting water quality metrics, distinguishing between 'acceptable' and 'requires attention' across various parameters such as pH, chlorine, and phosphate levels.

Our commitment is to exceed the expectations set by regulations and laws.

As part of your role, you will conduct regular inspections of facilities, reservoirs, and dams. You will also perform risk assessments and ensure compliance with health and safety standards. Participation in the standby rota for emergency cover will be part of your duties.

Your Qualifications

We will provide comprehensive training on the technical aspects of the position. You should possess strong communication skills and be confident in working independently. Familiarity with modern computer systems is advantageous as we embrace technological advancements.

Attention to detail is essential; you will ensure accurate documentation and adherence to health and safety protocols. A knack for identifying trends and problem-solving, both independently and collaboratively, will be beneficial.

A valid driving license is required, and a company vehicle will be provided for your duties.

While not mandatory, knowledge of water treatment processes and distribution systems, as well as mechanical maintenance experience, would be advantageous.

Employee Support

We understand the importance of work-life balance. That's why we offer generous leave policies, including 38 days of holiday annually (inclusive of public holidays), with the option to purchase additional leave. You will also have the opportunity to take paid time off for community volunteering.

We have family-friendly policies for significant life events such as adoption and parental leave, and we promote flexible working arrangements.

For your future, we provide a pension plan and life assurance. Additionally, you can look forward to an annual bonus and access to employee benefits that can help you save on various expenses.
