About the Role

DC Thomson Ltd. is a leading media company seeking a highly skilled and experienced broadcast journalist to join our dynamic news team as Deputy Head of Radio News and Content.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of broadcast journalists and contribute to the delivery of high-quality news and current affairs content across our radio stations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Content Creation: Write and edit scripts, conduct interviews, and create engaging news and sport bulletins for our radio stations.
  • Team Leadership: Support the Head of Radio News in leading the news team, manage reporters, and ensure the delivery of high-quality content.
  • Presenting and Editing: Present and edit news and sport bulletins, maintaining awareness of legal and Ofcom requirements.
  • Network Development: Maintain and develop a strong network of local contacts across all broadcast areas.
  • Station Management: Update station websites and social media, and assume role as team leader when Head of News is not on shift.
Requirements
  • Experience: Proven experience in broadcast journalism, with a sound knowledge of regulatory and legal frameworks.
  • Qualifications: Qualified in broadcast journalism, with a strong understanding of Ofcom guidelines.
  • Skills: Excellent presentation skills, comfortable working in a fast-paced news environment, and ability to handle multiple tasks at once.
  • Knowledge: Awareness of key local news and sports issues across Scotland.
  • Personal Qualities: First-rate communication skills, ability to work independently, and willingness to travel to our offices in Aberdeen, Dundee, and Kirkcaldy.
