Purpose of the Role:

The primary objective of this position is to provide ground maintenance services to ensure the town's grounds are well-maintained and visually appealing. This involves a range of responsibilities, including:

  • Grass Cutting and Maintenance: Operate ride-on mowers to cut large grass areas, use hand mowers and strimmers to finish around obstacles, and perform hedge cutting at appropriate times for birds and wildlife.
  • Tennis and Basketball Court Maintenance: Inspect tennis and basketball courts for debris and surface contamination, and conduct monthly inspections and daily visual checks of play equipment.
  • Litter Control and Cemetery Maintenance: Perform daily litter picking, unlock cemeteries every weekday, ensure the chapel is clean and tidy, and assist the public with cemetery queries.
  • Grave Digging and Maintenance: Collect grave digging paperwork from the office, perform grave digging and backfilling, repair any collapsed graves, and erect and remove barriers.
  • Machinery Maintenance: Grease and lubricate appropriate parts on machinery, and check defibrillators monthly and record site checks online.
  • Office Grounds Maintenance: Perform weekly maintenance of office grounds, including litter and debris removal.

Requirements:

  • Horticulture Knowledge: Horticulture knowledge is advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience with Garden Machinery: Experience with garden machinery is advantageous.
  • Experience with Heavy Machinery: Experience with 360° excavators and ride-on mowers is advantageous.

Personal Qualities:

  • Conscientious and Reliable: The ideal candidate will be conscientious and reliable, with a professional attitude and good timekeeping.
  • Proactive and Self-Motivated: A proactive and self-motivated individual who is a team player and can work independently.
