About NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde stands as the largest healthcare system and educational Board in Scotland, managing an annual budget of approximately £4.2 billion (2023/24) and employing around 41,000 individuals. Our organization delivers a comprehensive array of Acute, Mental Health, Community, and Primary Care services to a diverse population of 1.2 million across six local authority areas, alongside regional and national services across various clinical specialties.
We are in search of a transformative senior leader to assume the role of Director of Human Resources for Corporate Services, possessing a proven history of successfully integrating strategic initiatives with operational execution.
Our Corporate Services Directorates play a vital role in supporting and empowering our clinical services to deliver outstanding healthcare. We employ nearly 4,000 professionals within Corporate Services, comprising a diverse array of teams, including the Board Medical Directorate, the Board Nursing Directorate, eHealth, Corporate Communications, Finance, Human Resources, Organisational Development, and Public Health.
This is an opportune moment to consider joining our team as we navigate the recovery phase from COVID-19 and advance our transformational healthcare strategy, 'Moving Forward Together', aimed at ensuring enhanced health and healthcare outcomes for the Greater Glasgow and Clyde population.
Role Overview
The position entails providing direct support to the Corporate Directors and their broader leadership teams, overseeing all Human Resources-related matters within these Directorates, ensuring optimal workforce supply and enhancing employee experience.
This role also assists the Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development with the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Remuneration Committee and the Executive and Senior Manager Performance Appraisal cycle.
With a professional and performance management connection to the Depute Director of Human Resources, the successful candidate will serve as a key member of the Human Resources and Organisational Development senior team and will be expected to collaborate effectively with other Heads of Human Resources on various issues.
Our Heads of Human Resources hold a significant responsibility in supporting the Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development in developing and executing our workforce strategy and plans, which aim to cultivate a skilled and engaged workforce capable of delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
We are looking for a highly qualified and experienced Director of Human Resources, with a demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate change, navigate an organization with multiple stakeholders, and ensure the highest quality of Human Resources service delivery. The ability to adapt one's style and confidently operate at a senior level within a complex and dynamic NHS environment will be crucial for this role.
We seek an individual who can act as a strategic change agent, supporting forward planning, modernization, engagement, and workforce performance. The ideal candidate will bring a fresh, innovative, and collaborative approach to enhancing high performance and best practices across our Human Resources function.
Candidate Profile
The role requires an exceptional candidate who embodies the values and leadership competencies expected in a person-centered environment. The successful applicant must demonstrate a relentless focus and ambition for delivering top-tier Human Resources services while continuously improving outcomes to provide safe, high-quality, and cost-effective services with a patient-centered approach.
Candidates must exhibit extensive knowledge and expertise in Human Resources management, strategy, and policy development, including service improvement and sustainability, financial and capacity planning, as well as a proven record in implementing organizational redesign and change. A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field (or equivalent relevant experience) is required, along with membership in the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
The position involves managing multiple competing demands; therefore, candidates must have demonstrated experience working at a senior level in a Human Resources leadership role within an organization of similar scale and complexity, whether in the NHS or the broader Public/Private sector. Strong communication and influencing skills are essential attributes for this role.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde welcomes applications from all community sectors. We foster a culture of inclusion across the organization and take pride in our diverse workforce. Applications are encouraged from UK, EEA, and non-EEA candidates.
We look forward to receiving your application.
