As a Lead Quantity Surveyor at Farrans Construction, you will oversee a diverse team of contractors and suppliers, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation in commercial management. This role is pivotal in one of the UK's most significant infrastructure initiatives, focusing on the engineering and integration of interconnected pipelines designed to transport water from surplus to deficit areas, thereby enhancing the resilience of the east of England against drought and ensuring sustainable water supplies for future generations.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver optimal commercial outcomes for projects through precise financial reporting.
- Cultivate and sustain strong relationships with clients and the supply chain.
- Oversee subcontractor accounts, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and monitoring performance against project timelines. Negotiate final settlements.
- Develop and manage the procurement timeline effectively.
- Conduct measurements and valuations of completed work, ensuring adherence to contract specifications.
- Track project spending against the budget, providing insights on cost overruns and future projections while identifying opportunities to enhance value and reduce expenses.
- Engage with clients on commercial matters, including the negotiation of variations, claims, and additional payments.
- Recognize valid contractual claim scenarios and prepare appropriate documentation for clients.
- Establish project-specific commercial risk and opportunity assessments with measurable controls and designated responsibilities.
- Lead and mentor a team of Surveyors, focusing on performance management, individual development, and manpower planning.
- Provide guidance and coaching to team members in alignment with company standards and values, aiming to maximize both team and individual potential.

Required Skills and Experience
- A minimum of ten years of experience in construction commercial management, with a focus on major projects.
- Proficiency in administering NEC forms of contract.
- A degree or equivalent relevant commercial management experience.
- A solid understanding of contemporary Civil Engineering practices, equipment, and logistical considerations.
- Awareness of cost implications in project completion and the development of construction solutions.
- Strong IT proficiency.
- A valid UK manual driving license is essential.
