Are you an aspiring educational psychologist or child counsellor seeking hands-on experience working with children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs in the education sector?

New Directions Liverpool is currently recruiting trainee teaching assistants with a background in psychology to work within the special educational needs (SEN) sector.

This role offers a valuable opportunity to apply your psychological knowledge and skills in a practical educational setting, where you will provide vital support to children with a range of SEMH challenges.

As a trainee teaching assistant, you will work closely with experienced educators and SEN professionals to create a nurturing and inclusive environment that addresses the unique needs of each student.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Providing one-on-one and small group support to students with ASD
  • Building strong relationships with students and staff
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of the student
  • Working and liaising with teachers, therapists, and parents to support student's academic, social, and emotional development

Job Requirements:

  • Experience working with children, or adults, with additional needs
  • Hold a L2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent
  • Able to support children of all abilities
