Job Description

XPO Transport Solutions UK Limited is a leading logistics company that's changing the way goods move around the world. We're seeking a skilled Transport Planner to join our team in Widnes, working on behalf of Tesco.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Allocating drivers to routes and vehicles to ensure cost-effective deployment of manpower and achievement of contractual delivery times
  • Ensuring all administrative tasks are carried out accurately and professionally
  • Liaising with line manager to minimize cost impact and ensure effective use of hire vehicles/subcontractors
  • Ensuring vehicle accidents are escalated to line manager and defected vehicles are recorded on traffic sheets
  • Following procedure for damaged deliveries and achieving weekly and monthly KPIs as set by the business
  • Utilizing IT systems, including Paragon and Mi-Sharp, to deliver the role effectively
Key Responsibilities

The Transport Planner will be responsible for:

  • Operational planning and execution
  • Communication with internal and external customers
  • Legislative compliance and health and safety requirements
  • Supporting management team in colleague development
  • Undertaking reasonable tasks and training events
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • CPC desirable
  • Working knowledge of driver hours regulations
  • Good geographical knowledge of the UK
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements
  • Financial understanding
  • Operational understanding of team roles
  • Excellent IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work under pressure and react quickly to customer requirements
  • Effective customer service skills
  • Ability to take a creative approach to problem solving
  • Previous experience within a transport/logistics organization
  • Experience of managing conflicting priorities in a fast-moving environment
