Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom Rolls-Royce SMR Full time

Nuclear Safety Analysis Engineer

Location – Warrington, Derby

£40,000 - £52,500

At Rolls-Royce SMR, we are embarking on a groundbreaking journey to transform the energy sector. This is not merely a job; it is an opportunity to contribute to a significant legacy.

We are currently seeking a Nuclear Safety Analysis Engineer to play a vital role in the development of the Rolls-Royce SMR Power Station and to ensure the successful navigation of licensing and permitting processes.

Role Purpose

Your primary responsibility will be to facilitate the creation and upkeep of deterministic analysis programs, ensuring compliance with nuclear safety standards. You will support hazard identification initiatives and maintain accurate records. Additionally, you will assist engineering teams in integrating safety considerations into their design processes, ensuring that quality and governance standards are upheld for all deterministic analysis submissions. Collaboration with various engineering disciplines will be essential to address any design compliance gaps, and you will present your findings to support licensing efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the deterministic analysis program as part of the nuclear safety case delivery.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating hazard identification studies, producing comprehensive records, and compiling identified hazards into the Hazard Log.
  • Support engineering teams in utilizing deterministic considerations in their design processes.
  • Apply appropriate quality and governance measures to deterministic analyses and related submissions.
  • Collaborate with engineering disciplines to ensure designs meet deterministic analysis requirements and address any discrepancies.
  • Engage with other safety disciplines, including probabilistic safety assessment and hazard analysis, as necessary.
  • Conduct and present deterministic analyses to aid in licensing processes.

We understand that confidence can sometimes deter candidates from applying. However, we believe that there is no such thing as a 'perfect' candidate. If you meet approximately 75% of the qualifications for this position, we encourage you to reach out to us.

If you are contemplating a career transition or a shift in sectors, we welcome your application, especially if you possess transferable skills.

Candidate Profile

  • Degree qualified or equivalent in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or significant relevant industry experience.
  • Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional project team.
  • Eligibility to obtain Security Clearance.
  • Experience utilizing deterministic analysis in the design of Nuclear Power Plants.
  • Familiarity with PWR plant design and operation, including the creation of deterministic analysis documentation such as hazard identification and fault schedules.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary ranging from £40,000 to £52,000, along with a performance-related bonus of up to 12.5%. Our attractive pension scheme includes 12% employer and 6% employee contributions. Additionally, you will receive a flexible benefits allowance of £2,200, allowing you to tailor a benefits package to suit your individual needs.
