About the Role

The University of Hertfordshire is seeking an exceptional individual to fill the position of Deputy Dean of School, a key leadership role within our institution. As Deputy Dean, you will play a vital part in shaping the strategic direction of our School of Law and Education, working closely with the Dean and other senior leaders to drive academic excellence and innovation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the School's strategic plans, ensuring alignment with the University's overall vision and goals.
  • Provide executive oversight and leadership to specific functions within the School, including the operationalization of strategic plans.
  • Lead and motivate a team of experienced Heads of Department, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
  • Work closely with the Dean and Associate Deans to ensure effective academic leadership and management.
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including University committees and external organizations.
Requirements
  • Proven senior-level management and leadership experience, with a track record of driving positive change and achieving substantial results.
  • Knowledge and expertise within one of the School's discipline areas, with a comprehensive understanding of UK Higher Education regulation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to influence and harness the talent of others.
  • Highly competent in analyzing multiple sources of data to inform evidence-based decision making.
  • Experience of financial and resource management, with the ability to support the delivery of strategic objectives.
  • Commitment to upholding the University's values of friendly, ambitious, collegiate, enterprising, and student-focused.
Qualifications
  • Hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject to the School's disciplinary areas.
  • Desirable: A Doctorate in a relevant subject, or substantial industrial or academic experience.
  • Commitment to Principal Fellowship of Advance HE within 2 years of appointment, with Senior Fellowship on appointment being desirable.
