Job Title: Classroom Assistant - Special Educational Needs

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Classroom Assistant to join our team at the Education Authority. As a Classroom Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the learning and development of children with special educational needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering lessons to children with special educational needs
  • Provide individualized support to children with special educational needs, including those with physical, sensory, or learning disabilities
  • Help to create a safe and inclusive learning environment that promotes social, emotional, and academic growth
  • Collaborate with teachers, other support staff, and parents to develop and implement individualized education plans
  • Monitor and record children's progress, identifying areas of strength and weakness
Requirements:
  • Hold a minimum of a Level 2 childcare qualification as approved by the Education Authority
  • Have a minimum of six months' experience of working with children with special educational needs in a formal learning environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with children, teachers, and parents
  • Ability to work flexibly and creatively to meet the needs of children with special educational needs
Desirable Criteria:
  • Have a minimum of one year's experience of working with children with special educational needs
  • Have a minimum of six months' experience working in a primary school as a Classroom Assistant with children with special educational needs
Disclosure of Criminal Background:

In accordance with the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007, the Education Authority will require an Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background for this role. Please note that you will be expected to meet the cost of an Enhanced Disclosure Certificate.
