Job Description

Role Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Instrument Development and Integration Specialist to join our team at the University of Leeds. As an Aerosol Measurement Expert, you will be responsible for developing a new instrument to measure the concentration and sizes of airborne aerosol particles, as well as designing and implementing the data logging and display software for this instrument.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop a new instrument to measure aerosol particles, including the selection and integration of off-the-shelf components.
  • Develop and implement data logging and display software for the instrument, with a focus on open-source solutions.
  • Collaborate with the wider team to test and integrate the instrument with the aircraft, including flying on the aircraft in the UK or overseas.
  • Provide design specifications to British Aerospace for installation on the aircraft.
  • Publish the design blueprints on an open-source repository.

Requirements

  • Strong background in engineering or a related field, with experience in instrument development and integration.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across disciplines.
  • Experience with data logging and display software, as well as open-source solutions.
  • Ability to learn new skills and engage in training as needed.
