Student Support Assistant

Job Summary
The Student Experience Assistant will be responsible for ensuring the wellbeing and safety of students using the student recreational space during lunchtime. This role will also support the Engagement and Enrichment Coach and wider Student Support and Wellbeing Team with engagement activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the wellbeing and safety of students using the student recreational space during lunchtime.
- Support the Engagement and Enrichment Coach and wider Student Support and Wellbeing Team with engagement activities.
- Act as a fire marshal and ensure compliance with fire safety procedures.
- Monitor student behavior to maintain an inclusive, welcoming, and safe environment.
- Refer students to internal support services as appropriate.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Commit to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
- Participate in the College's Performance Management Scheme and attend necessary training events.
- Actively participate in the College's Quality System, including quality improvement strategies and initiatives.
- Undertake other duties as assigned commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post.
- Take reasonable care for the health and safety of oneself and others affected by their work.
- Actively support College Safeguarding, Equality, and Diversity policies.
- Operate and conduct all HR tasks and functions within the principles of GDPR.
Conditions of Service
- The appointment is subject to the Conditions of Service for Business Support Staff.
- All successful applicants will undergo the following checks:
- Enhanced DBS
- 2 x References, one of which must be the current or most recent employer
- Qualification validation check
Salary and Benefits
- The salary range for this post is from £22,074 to £22,865 pro rata per annum.
- The starting salary will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
- Once successfully passed the probationary period, the salary will increase within the salary band on an annual incremental basis, until reaching the top of the salary scale.
Hours of Work and Annual Leave
- The hours of work will be based on 10 hours a week, 34 weeks a year (TTO).
- As this is a term-time only appointment, a payment in lieu of holiday will be made, in addition to the salary.
- Statutory Bank Holidays and concessionary days will also be paid.
Pension Scheme and Probationary Period
- The College operates an occupational pension scheme, namely the 'Local Government Pension Scheme'.
- All newly appointed staff must serve a 6-month probationary period.
First Aid and Fire Marshal
- Staff with fire marshal responsibilities must undertake first aid and fire marshal duties across the College, when called upon to do so.
- Staff must ensure they are up to date with relevant training.
References and Validation of Qualifications
- Please note that without 2 satisfactory references being received before the end of the probationary period, new staff will not be able to successfully pass their probationary.
- The College will undertake qualification validation by writing to the appropriate educational institute.
Contractual Requirement to Obtain a Qualification
- If required to obtain a qualification as a contractual requirement, the College reviews its CPD budget on an annual basis regarding availability of funds.
- Student loan facilities are available.
Maths and English
- All staff are required to have a minimum level 2 qualification in both English and Maths.
- If not already in receipt of one or both of these qualifications, staff will be expected to obtain it/them during employment at the College.
Safeguarding
- The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
- Staff will be required to undertake safeguarding training following their appointment.
Online Checks
- Candidates shortlisted for interview and subsequently become successful in the recruitment process will be subject to online checks being carried out by a neutral party not directly involved in the recruitment process.
Disclosure and Barring Check
- All successful applicants will be required to complete and pay for a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
- The costs of this check will be deducted from the applicant's first salary payment from the College.
