Assistant Manager (Children's Residential Care)

£31 per hour (dependent on experience)

Shift-based (Full Time, 40+ hours with some flexibility)

As the Assistant Manager, you will report directly to the registered manager and play a crucial role in safeguarding and enhancing the welfare of young individuals in line with the relevant regulations and quality standards.

In this role, you will assist the Manager in the development and coordination of the home, adhering to OwnLife's policies, and stepping in for the Manager during their absence.

  • Support the Manager in the overall administration and daily operations of the home, ensuring a safe and secure environment.
  • Share management responsibilities with the Manager and Senior Support Workers to guarantee adequate coverage for the home.
  • Provide leadership and line management support to staff and residents on a shift-by-shift basis, ensuring the needs of the young individuals are met according to their care plans.
  • Deliver structured and informal supervision for staff, contribute to the staff appraisal process, and exemplify high standards of practice and performance in direct interactions with young individuals.
  • Collaborate with the Manager to train and support the staff team through supervision and formal training initiatives.
  • Assist the Manager in ensuring that each staff member has a tailored training and development plan, with regular training aligned with both individual and home needs.
  • Monitor staff practices and performance in relation to the evolving needs of the residents and the home.
  • Report any unacceptable practices by staff to management in writing, and if necessary, participate as a material witness in disciplinary proceedings.
The essential skills and attributes for the Assistant Manager role include:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent, or actively pursuing it.
  • Experience in working with children and young individuals.
  • Familiarity with supporting young individuals exhibiting challenging behaviors.
  • Ability to engage with young individuals and address their physical and emotional needs.
  • Capacity to collaborate with other professionals and the families of the young individuals in our care.
  • Understanding of maintaining professional boundaries with young individuals.
