Job Description

Empowering Learning is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Worker to join our team at an Alternative Provision in Huddersfield. As a Behaviour Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs, including those with autism, in a classroom setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing educational programs and activities for students.
  • Provide support to students with special needs, including those with autism, to promote their academic and social development.
  • Assist in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters social, emotional, and academic growth.
  • Help students with daily tasks, such as personal care and hygiene, to promote independence and self-confidence.
  • Collaborate with the lead teacher to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the lead teacher to inform instruction and support.
  • Assist with classroom management and behaviour management strategies to ensure a safe and respectful learning environment.
Requirements:
  • Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs and challenging behaviours.
  • Knowledge of special education practices and strategies to support students with diverse needs.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards working with children to promote their social, emotional, and academic growth.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and handle challenging behaviours in a professional and respectful manner.
