Plymouth, Plymouth, United Kingdom Great Western Railway (GWR) Full time

About Us:

Great Western Railway (GWR) is dedicated to preserving Brunel's railway, a distinguished network recognized globally. We operate some of the most modern trains in the nation and have ambitious plans to enhance our services. Annually, we facilitate over one hundred million passenger journeys, connecting more than 275 stations across the South West, from Cornwall and South Wales to London, while traversing picturesque landscapes and some of the UK's premier tourist attractions.

We are committed to reshaping perceptions of train travel, empowering our diverse team of over 6,000 individuals to deliver exceptional experiences for our customers. Together, we aim to elevate rail travel as a unique mode of transportation – one that is relaxing, swift, efficient, friendly, and enjoyable.

The Depot Engineering Manager seeks a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the team as a Railway Engineering Technician. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including technical assessments, root cause analysis, fault tree analysis, report compilation, reliability-centered maintenance, detailed fault diagnosis, procedure documentation, process mapping, environmental considerations, competency evaluations, training, project oversight, auditing, and a wide array of engineering-related tasks.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the liaison with suppliers, managing material warranties and participating in technical and contract review meetings both on-site and off-site.
  • Support production teams not only in delivering the final product but also in enhancing product performance through process-driven modifications and improvements.
  • Collaborate with the DEM team to provide support across all GWR depots, functioning as part of a fully integrated team.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • A keen attention to detail is essential, along with the ability to adhere to procedures, create documentation, and understand company documentation processes.
  • Strong communication skills are vital, and proficiency in software applications such as Excel, Word, R2, and PowerPoint would be advantageous.
  • A recognized apprenticeship and/or NVQ Level 3 in engineering or an equivalent qualification is necessary.
  • Familiarity with Network Rail, environmental regulations, and depot plant systems would be beneficial.
  • Successful completion of an internal auditor's assessment is a requirement for this position.

Additional Information:

This position typically involves a day shift pattern; however, the role may require 'out of hours' work to accommodate unplanned or planned events and activities undertaken by the DEM Team. Travel to various sites and a willingness to pursue further training for the DEM Team functions will be necessary.

Benefits:

In addition to a supportive team environment and comprehensive training, all GWR employees enjoy a range of benefits, including ongoing professional development, a defined benefit pension scheme, complimentary rail travel across the GWR network for employees and their families, a company-sponsored healthcare plan, discounts on shopping and gym memberships, and an employee assistance program.

At GWR, we prioritize diversity and inclusion. Our vision is:

We are progressive. We are one family. We are inclusive. First time, every time.

We value our differences, including age, gender, LGBTQ+, ethnicity, religion, and disability, ensuring that every employee has a voice and is supported in being their authentic self at work.

We strive to create an inclusive environment for all our employees, guaranteeing equal opportunities for all candidates to access meaningful employment.

We maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of prejudice against our colleagues, customers, and future talent.

We celebrate and encourage diverse perspectives, innovative working methods, and the growth and success of all our employees.

We regularly review all roles and job descriptions to ensure accessibility and, where feasible, provide flexible working options. We recommend referring to each vacancy description for further details.

If you require additional support to complete your application due to a disability or neurodivergent condition, we encourage you to share any specific needs so we can facilitate a fair and equitable application process for all candidates.
