Estimator Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Estimator to join our team at LJB & Co. As an Estimator, you will play a crucial role in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for our construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead all estimating functions, including tender management, post-contract negotiation, and management of the supplier/subcontractor chain.
  • Review project specifications, drawings, and other relevant documents to understand the scope of work, materials required, and project constraints.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates for projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services.
  • Collaborate in the full tender process from inception to completion.
  • Prepare bid prospects ready for presentation to project managers.
  • Prepare subcontract quotes and ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Participate in meetings, both internal and client-based, and contribute to the best of your knowledge.
  • Accomplish take-offs from tender drawings.
  • Identify potential risks and uncertainties in project estimates, developing solutions to eliminate risks.
  • Keep updated on market conditions, trends, and pricing for materials and labor.
Requirements:
  • Degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveyor or relevant discipline.
  • 5+ years post-qualification experience in an Estimator role within construction, with a focus on Interiors, Refurbishments, and Social Housing projects.
  • Main contractor experience is desirable.
  • Dedicated team player with excellent interpersonal skills, able to collaborate effectively with colleagues, clients, and external partners.
  • Proven knowledge in estimating principles, practices, and technologies.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledgeable in estimating software and tools.
