Exciting Opportunity in HV Cable Design Engineering

We are seeking a talented HV Cable Design Engineer to join our expanding UK Cables Design Engineering team within Transmission & Distribution. As a key player in our team, you will contribute to the development of underground HV cable systems, supporting the UK's 2030 energy objectives and the crucial transition to a sustainable future.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop underground cable system (UGC) design studies to support construction and consultancy projects.
  • Prepare Cable System Design Summary reports, Cable Rating reports, Cable Bonding schemes, and Induced Voltage calculations.
  • Conduct Cable Forces and Cable Sizing calculations for various installation and operational scenarios.
  • Design Cable Pulling plans, perform calculations, and review installation drawings.
  • Select materials and accessories, produce the Bill of Quantities for projects and tenders.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, review product designs and type test certificates, and provide technical support to the procurement team.
  • Collaborate with other teams (such as OHL, Substations, and Protection) and various project stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of ISCED level 4 (post-secondary non-tertiary) HNC in a STEM subject, preferably with an Electrical Engineering focus.
  • A basic understanding and grounding in HV Cable Design gained through initial industry experience.
  • Proficiency in using CAD design software.
  • Strong communication, numeracy, and IT skills.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • ISCED level 7 (Bachelor's degree) or level 8 (Master's degree) in Engineering or a relevant discipline.
  • Continual commitment to personal and professional development.
  • Driving licence is beneficial.
